I guess it is starting to be like a broken record...me saying how thankful I am for the Supporters and Volunteers of HWAH. I think I will forever be saying that and being amazed at the love and kindness of so many people.
Many of you have heard the story before...I was walking down the basement stairs late one night while taking all of the boarding pups out for their last pottie. I was thinking that I would NEVER be able to catch up with all the work I needed to do. At that time I was pretty much doing it all alone....and feeling a little blue because I wanted HWAH to be the BEST, BEST, BEST and to be CLEAN, and the critters and boarders to have the most AWESOME care!!
Two things happened:
1. Harriette, our VP and my good friend gave me the lecture about asking for help. I always felt that I didn't want to impose on anyone. In her wonderful wisdom she explained that there really are some folks who just simply WANT to help and that I was denying them by not asking. So slowly I started to ask and wonderful people began to help.
2. Jackie Benson, with Channel 4 News did a piece on HWAH and the phone and email just went crazy with folks offering to help with their time or their dollars. Soon we had more volunteers than we could ever have thought possible, and folks made donations so we were able to accept more pups into our program and we were able to start making improvements on the Sanctuary.
The past several years have just been incredible, and I have met so many wonderful people and even though I seldom leave the house most days I am surrounded by dear friends who share my love for the pups and kitties. Sometimes folks forget that we also have a horse...Kash.... I miss him terribly because I cannot leave the Sanctuary to go and visit him, but he is being loved and cared for by a wonderful wonderful woman who loves him too, Kathy T. Thank you Kathy!!!
Volunteers help to take care of the pups and kitties, help to clean the Sanctuary and the grounds, they do fundraising, laundry, help with the website, walk the pups, brush the kitties, give baths and give me HUGS!!! and NOW - oh my....Jodi has agreed to be my personal shopper!!!
Normally I buy everything I need online. I was sharing with Jodi and some others how my sweet Joe had told me he was going to ask Laura, his much adored daughter to make sure she kept me supplied with jeans, underwear and socks when he was no longer able to do it for me. He knew I HATED to shop. Jodi shocked me by offering to be my PERSONAL shopper. Incredible!!!
Since I seldom get to see my family or go to visit during holidays, the Volunteers have become my friends and family. Julia's Mom once made me the most awesome Italian dinner, complete with salad and bread, Baxter's parents often bring me treats, Judy ---ahhhhh she brings some heavenly banana bread. Winston's Mom recently dropped off some homemade Chicken soup when she brought Winston for his boarding visit. Brian heard me reminiscing one day about Carlos and Pepe's Tuna Dip from my Ft. Lauderdale days. That wonderful man made me some TUNA DIP!!!! I could go on and on and on and on... so many people to be grateful for.
So yep - I will be saying it over and over and over again!!! I am sooooooo grateful for our volunteers and supporters. They are the ones that have made it possible for HWAH to continue.
Love to ALL!!!!
Remembering Max..............
